We do hundreds of interviews yearly and as such get loads of feedback. While we definitely get feedback from the hiring manager, we also get from candidates as well. Here are some of the things that they say that impacts employers negatively during the interview process.
- Being unprepared for the interview. When a manager has not read the resume prior to the interview, the candidate knows.
- Not respecting the candidate’s time and effort. Arriving late without consideration for the candidate.
- Being unprofessional during the interview.
- Ghosting the candidate.
- Not providing feedback.
- Taking too long in between each step of the process.
- Process is too complicated. Is it easy to apply online?
- You can’t get anyone live on the phone.
- Being untruthful.
- Not selling the job or company. The hiring manager should be excited about working there or else how will you get the candidate excited?
- Here’s a bonus “low-balling” the candidate on salary.
People talk and it does not take long for word to spread. This is a tight job market that we are in and even if it weren’t, think about how you want to be treated when you are the candidate.
